How to Be Confident on Camera and Grow Your Audience

The power of video is real. I’m sure you probably realize that by mastering video, you can take your business to new heights.

The only issue is… you’re nervous. Feeling overwhelmed. You clam up as soon as you press record. You can’t stand to watch yourself on screen. You’re not exactly sure what to say. And it just feels straight-up uncomfortable. Am I right?

The first time I was ever on camera professionally was during my first internship at a local news station at 17 years old. At the time, I wanted to be a news reporter. So, I would shadow reporters and they’d let me practice if we had extra time on the shoot.

They’d finish their story and then hand me the mic. I would freeze up, stutter, pause, forget what I was saying, my tone was wrong, did countless takes… it was A LOT.

But over time, I learned some extremely helpful techniques through watching experts, but also figuring out what helped me overcome those fears and lack of comfort.

A few things:

  1. Nerves are completely normal. You are not alone.
  2. The only way you will get to the other side of nerves/fear is action.
  3. These techniques are going to help you look more confident than you feel. Because let’s face it, in the beginning, you kinda have to fake it till you make it.

The first step to growing your reach with video is being comfortable on camera. Once you have that down, it’s time to begin implementing some hardcore techniques to actually grow your reach.

Content is king – so the first step is to make sure your content is BOMB. Aka, make sure you are bringing value to your audience: whether that’s education, entertainment, comedy, etc.

Understand that it is still possible to grow online. These tips are the blueprint for how I grew my YouTube channel to 20,000 subscribers in less than six months.
